You’ve heard people say that laughter is the best medicine, but do you really believe it? One study from the University of Waterloo of Western Ontario found that those who were blessed with a good sense of humor appear less depressed and anxious than those with a less well-developed sense of humor. Thousands of reputable studies have shown that there are numerous benefits to laughter. There are many reasons to add more laughter into your life, below are just a few of them.

Shall we start with a joke?

Did you hear about the actor who fell through the floorboards? He was just going through a stage!

8 Reasons why you should be laughing more, as found in multiple studies:

  1. Laughter may help lessen stress or anxiety. Perhaps watching a hilarious flick when you’re feeling the blues might be exactly what you need.
  2. Laughing may improve blood flow. According to a study from the University of Maryland Medical Center, laughter appears to cause the tissue inside blood vessels to expand.
  3. Laughing on a regular basis may strengthen those abdominal muscles.
  4. Laughter is an excellent way to bond with others. Isn’t it wonderful when you and a friend share a really good laugh? YES! Do it as often as you can.
  5. Laughing out loud is contagious. What a great thing to pass along!
  6. People are said to look more attractive when they laugh. Take a picture of yourself smiling and then without smiling. You get the idea.
  7. Get more quality sleep! Laughing relaxes you which leads to better sleep.
  8. Laughter triggers endorphins in your brain. We love those endorphins, right?

Studies from all over the world tell us to laugh more regularly, so why not? Give yourself another trick up your sleeve to feel great. It’s time to dust off those old joke books! May the LOL begin.
