Caring for Your Hair and Nails This Summer

Swimming, vacations, and outdoor activities are great ways to get the most out of your summer, but they can be damaging to your hair and nails. Between the sand, chlorine, sea salt, and environmental factors, your hair and nails can take a real beating this season, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite summer activities. With a little extra care, your hair and nails can look fantastic year-round.

Dryness
One of the main summertime beauty concerns is dryness. Sea salt, chlorine, sun, and even the salt from your sweat play a big role in sapping the natural moisture from your hair, skin, and nails. To combat dryness, make sure to use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and apply plenty of lotion to your skin and nails. A cuticle oil can be especially helpful during the summer months.

You can prevent chlorine and salt water damage by rinsing your hair under cool, fresh water before you take a dip. This will limit the amount of chlorinated water or salt water your hair absorbs while you’re swimming. When you’re done with your swim, make sure to wash and condition your hair to get rid of any lingering chlorine or salt. If your hair is already prone to dryness, it’s a good idea to use a good moisturizing mask once a week.

UV Rays
UV rays can take a toll on more than just your skin: your hair and nails can be affected too. A stylish hat will protect your tresses from the sun, or hair products containing SPF will do the trick. You can also give your hair a break by taking a hiatus from your heat tools. Summer is the perfect time of year to embrace your natural hair texture or experiment with some new hair styles.

You already know how important sunscreen is for your skin, but don’t forget to protect your nails and cuticles, too. The good news is that a manicure can help. That’s right. Wearing an opaque polish can offer support for your nails. Manicure time!

Some extra TLC
In addition to protecting your hair and nails from the elements, there are a few things you can also do to support them this season. Beauty always starts from the inside, so make sure you’re eating a well-balanced diet (with plenty of these beauty foods) and drinking lots of water. You can also look into a high-quality beauty support supplement.

Cheers to a beautiful summer!
